Royal Caribbean shifts ship out of Alaska

by admin on February 12, 2009

The decision to move to Royal Caribbean Cruises ship from Alaska to other destinations has been calling for tourism officials to take measures to maintain their competitiveness.

John Binkley, president of the Alaska Cruise Association, said the redeployment of the Serenade of the Seas will be a loss of $ 55 million in revenue and a reduction of 42,000 visitors.

The ship had 20 trips scheduled in Alaska this year.

David Kasser the anchor Convention & Visitors Bureau said that Alaska must work to provide a better environment for cruise lines.

Binkley said it would be desirable to make adjustments to the 2006 initiative that created a cruise passenger $ 50 per head sewage dumping tax regulations and industry officials say they are too strict.
