Land, Ho! Discovering New Worlds During Shore Excursions

When your ship stops at an exciting port of call, you have three options: stay on board, look at your own or take a boat trip. But once you glimpse your window and see the tropical island, feel the vibrations of the bustling cities and the effect of poisoning the exotic countries, staying on board quickly dissolve as an option.
Ship-sponsored shore excursions are valuable if you want to visit the attractions away from the pier, have easy access to historical monuments, forts and castles and simply learn about the country. They also provide the best way to experience a metropolitan city as the port of Barcelona and Rome, and the safest way to visit a third world country where language and customs can be a barrier too daunting.

However, if all you want to do is walk around a city or town, shop or go to a beach, and then get a map, insurance money and stands on its own. Wandering a port on its own can be a great way to get away from the crowds and immerse yourself in a new culture, but also can be difficult.

Miles around, everyone just noticed the great white ship full of wealthy tourists, so their chances are zero mixing.

Do not draw attention to the flashy jewelry and large amounts of cash. Do not walk through narrow alleys or poorly lit streets and avoid being surrounded by crowds, if possible. Carry a fake wallet and put your money in your front pocket, or place a rubber band around your wallet to make it more difficult to remove from your pocket without you feel.

Safety First

In general, a cruise is very safe to travel, as ships must follow an extraordinary set of rules and regulations, and are subject to rigorous inspections quarterly. Vessels operating under international rules known as Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), requiring them to use smoke detectors, sprinklers and low-level emergency lighting for escape routes.

Safety drills are performed within the first 24 hours of navigation, where you will learn how to put your life and find their assigned lifevest jacket.

Dizziness is less common today as the ship’s immense size and the state of the art stabilizers control gentle rocking motion. Once on board, spend some time on deck and focus on a fixed point on the horizon that will help you adjust and get its sea legs quickly.

Make sure a complete package of your health information with you on your trip, your medical history, your insurance information, the contact person in case of emergency, blood type and a list of allergies, medications and vaccines.
